PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

January 2010

We started 2010 out with a bang. Our January meeting at the WK Kellogg Arabian Horse Center at Cal Poly was one of our best attended meetings in years. It seemed a lot of people wanted the chance to see Cal Poly’s famous Sunday Show. I was told that it was one of their best, and I am sure that all of us there would agree. We not only had just the board members, but also many members who don’t regularly attend as well as many guests. Liz Broadbent brought her 4H group and they were a great addition.

We are working on our other meetings for the year. The dates will be set at our February board meeting. We are looking at a meeting in April, a summer meeting, a fall wrap up meeting for the Fall Horse Show, and of course a Christmas meeting. If anyone has any good meeting ideas, please let me know.

The Fall Santa Barbara Horse Show will once again be held over Labor Day weekend. You can sign up now to be a sponsor and have your name appear in the newsletter sponsorship box and on our web page every month up until the show. It is a great way to support your club and we need to get many more sponsors this year to make the show a financial success.

Another one of our goals this year is to increase our membership numbers. We would like to be able to send five delegates to the convention instead of our usual six. We receive one delegate for every 50 delegates or portion thereof.  Therefore, we need only 49 more. If you have friends who are direct members of AHA, get them to switch over and become a club member instead. The benefits of being part of a club instead of just the parent organization are many.

I am looking forward to a great year. I hope that the January meeting is just the start of an increased attendance. Remember, our board meetings, which are usually the first Tuesday of the month, are open to everyone. Just check the newsletter and call the meeting host for reservations. I hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Mary Ann Hughes
